Local Committee
swine flu

The recent outbreak of swine flu that is currently affecting Mexico and other countries in the American and European continents.

a.    This type of affection, of recent appearance, seems to be a mutant of the avian flu. The illness is focused mainly in Mexico City, its suburban area, and the state of San Luis Potosí, in northern Mexico. Other states have reported a few isolated cases. Nevertheless, recent news indicate that the Yucatán peninsula, where Cancún is, has not yet been infected.

b.    Both federal and state governments have been enforcing strict health and safety measures to prevent further spread of this illness.

c.    Cancún is located at the tip of Yucatán’s peninsula, at about 1,600 km from Mexico City, where the major source of trouble is.

d.    We will also provide more accurate information on health services in Cancún.

e.    At the moment we are not able to provide further information about this situation. As soon as relevant information is released from the official agencies, we will inform you at once. We recommend you visiting the ICPIG’s website, as we plan to post relevant information there.

f.    At over two months from its start, the organization of ICPIG 2009 is running smoothly. We have great hopes that this unfortunate event will soon be over. Meanwhile, the LOC will carry on with all the logistic and organizational duties aiming at having a successful ICPIG 2009.
